What B7 is
B7 is ordinary forecourt diesel — the fuel the overwhelming majority of diesel vehicles in the UK are filled with. The B7 label means it contains up to 7 per cent FAME biodiesel, the limit set by the European diesel standard EN 590 that UK forecourt diesel is sold to.
What FAME is
FAME stands for fatty acid methyl ester — biodiesel made from vegetable oils or animal fats. It is blended into diesel to reduce the carbon intensity of road transport fuel. Up to 7 per cent is the limit in B7; a higher blend gets a different label, which is what B10 is.
Premium diesel
Most of the big brands also sell a higher priced diesel under their own name. That is a different additive package on the same base fuel and it is reported separately by the scheme — see premium diesel.
How it appears in the data
The Fuel Finder scheme reports this fuel as B7 Standard. Its own documentation gives the value
as B7_Standard while its internal exports use B7S; the scheme has flagged that
discrepancy itself, so this site reads whichever it is sent rather than assuming one.
