What premium diesel is
Premium diesel is the same base B7 diesel with a different additive package, sold under each brand’s own name at a higher price per litre. The additives are typically claimed to keep the fuel system cleaner and, in some products, to raise the cetane number.
Is it worth the money?
We do not know, and we are not going to tell you that we do. The claims made for premium diesel are made by the companies selling it, and testing them is not something a price site can do honestly. What this site can do is show you exactly what the difference costs at the forecourts near you, in pence per litre and in pounds per gallon, so the decision is made against a real number rather than a feeling.
How it appears in the data
The Fuel Finder scheme reports this fuel as B7 Premium (B7_Premium in the
documentation, B7P in the internal exports). In the data behind this site, 0 of
8,077 forecourts report a price for it — far fewer than for ordinary diesel, because not every
forecourt sells it.
No forecourt in the file we hold reported a price for this fuel. That is a statement about the data, not about the fuel.
